Chef Kang started his culinary journey in his teenage years at a zichar eatery in Singapore. He was tasked with maintaining the cleanliness of the live seafood tank and dish-washing for more than a year before he was actually allowed to work in the kitchen. After learning the basics of cooking, he progressed to a restaurant serving Hong Kong cuisine where he had to pick up Cantonese to communicate with the staff working there. For more than than 10 years, Chef Kang trained under his Hong Kong master chef and followed him to many countries in Asia, gathering experience while working in different restaurants.
In 2002, Chef Kang opened his first casual eatery, Canton Wok, which relocated a few times before closing down eventually in 2009. His second venture, Canton Recipes House was set up in 2011, and unfortunately ceased operations a few years later. After a year and a half hiatus. Chef Kang made a return to Singapore’s F&B scene with Chef Kang Kitchen in 2015. With this private kitchen, Chef Kang received numerous awards and recognition and eventually clinched his first Michelin star 2017.
